What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a medium to deep facial exfoliation method that is effective and appropriate for all skin types. Using a surgical steel blade, the top layer of skin is scraped away to reveal the more smooth, youthful skin below. The process can be compared with gentle “shaving.” Results are achieved by removing the dead skin cells that dull the appearance of your skin, and the small facial hairs commonly known as “peach fuzz”, which trap dirt and oils. Dermaplaning is sought after by those looking to enjoy a smooth, silky base for makeup or topical product application. This treatment is an ideal and safe alternative to chemical exfoliation for sensitive skin as well as pregnant and lactating women, and it is recommended to anyone who wants to achieve a glowing complexion.

Is there any downtime?  

Short answer is no. The long answer is that after treatment, your skin will be vulnerable. The skin revealed by the treatment is newly exposed so it will be sensitive for 3 days to a week after treatment. To take care of your skin, it is important you follow the simple aftercare advice we give you. Post-treatment guidelines include:

How Often Should You Have Dermaplaning Done?  

For most people, this treatment should be done once a month to continue to see the best results. For those with sensitive skin, we may recommend that you space your appointments 6 weeks apart. Your aesthetician will help you determine the right amount of time you should place between appointments.  

Can You Combine This Treatment With Another?  

Yes! This treatment is an excellent preparation for many other skincare treatments. At our office, we recommend combining this treatment with a chemical peel, a treatment facial, Forma, or Lumecca.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are an application of mild acids used to achieve light to medium depth exfoliation. This form of exfoliation helps to brighten, tone, and smooth the skin by stimulating skin cell regeneration. This treatment will clear and purify the skin while balancing hydration levels to prevent dryness and irritation.
