Rhinoplasty Basics

A rhinoplasty, or a “nose job," is the surgical reshaping of the nose to enhance the shape, size, and symmetry. Rhinoplasties are typically performed either to improve the form and function of the nose (ex. make it easier to breathe) or to improve the appearance of the nose so that it is in better proportion with the rest of the face. This can be a life-changing, rewarding procedure that boosts self-confidence and enhances your natural beauty.

Benefits of a Rhinoplasty

Is a Rhinoplasty Right for Me?

For many people, an enlarged or misshapen nose can be a major source of stress and anxiety, leading to decreased self-esteem. Men and women of all ages can benefit from this life-enhancing procedure. If you are bothered by any of the below, a rhinoplasty may be right for you:

Be sure to discuss your concerns and goals for the procedure with Dr. Stiller during your consultation and he will be able to explain the potential benefits and expected end results of your rhinoplasty procedure.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty procedures are highly individualized, dependent upon your specific concerns and face anatomy. Dr. Stiller will assess your unique circumstances and curate a procedure plan that’s right for you. Some of the common methods for rhinoplasty are explained below.

For patients looking to make minor adjustments to the appearance of their nose, a closed rhinoplasty may be performed, which involves small incisions made inside the nostril. A benefit of this type of procedure is that there is minimal scarring post-surgery and for many, the small adjustments made to the nose are enough to achieve your desired outcome. Patients needing more extensive changes may undergo an open rhinoplasty. For an open rhinoplasty, Dr. Stiller will make an incision under the nasal tip between the nostrils, giving him much more access to the cartilage, bone, and tissue in the nose. This type of procedure also has minimal scarring, as the incision site is at a natural crease beneath the nose. Some rhinoplasties only require reshaping without need for manipulation of the nasal structure. For these patients, reshaping of the nasal tip is only done.

In some cases, the nose can be reshaped with dermal fillers only. This allows for improvements in the nose shape without the need for surgery. While these results will be temporary, lasting about 1 year, it’s a great method for those who’d like to “try out” a nose job before making permanent changes with a rhinoplasty procedure.

For your Cosmetic Surgery, cash pay procedures, your surgery will be performed at our own on-site AAAASF accredited surgery center at our Stiller Aesthetics office. Our operating room is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, meaning you will be able to go home the same day as your surgery a few hours after the procedure. After the surgery, your nose will be placed in a splint which will help to support your new nose and protect it from accidental contact. You may experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes and nose after the surgery. The majority of the bruising and swelling will subside after the first 10-14 days and you will begin to see the improvements from your procedure. Most patients return to work after 1-2 weeks.

You will be provided with detailed post-operative instructions upon completion of your procedure. If at any time you should have any questions or concerns after surgery, please contact our practice immediately.

Rhinoplasty Results

Due to the bruising and swelling post-surgery, you won’t be able to see results right away. After about 1-2 weeks, you will notice improvements in the shape of your nose. Full results may take up to a year, due to the residual swelling. Rhinoplasty results are permanent, so you can expect to enjoy the benefits of your new nose for the rest of your life.
