Brow Lift Basics

Over time, persistent muscle activity, gravity, and sunlight impact the forehead and brow, causing the skin to wrinkle and loosen. This contributes to a 'heaviness' in the brow that leads to an aged and exhausted appearance. Certain inherited traits, such as a naturally low, flat, or heavy brow, can also cause this appearance. A browlift procedure will lift the brows and in turn open the eyes and restore a smoother, more youthful contour to the upper one-third of the face.

Brow Lift Benefits

Is a Brow Lift Right for Me?

If you are bothered by droopy brows, deep furrows, or frown lines over the eyes that create a tired look, then a brow lift may be the right choice for you. Whether your heavy brows are genetic or a part of the aging process, Dr. Stiller will help fix what bothers you. While some aspects of forehead and brow aging can be improved with non-surgical procedures such as Botox, some patients may need more. Most commonly, patients struggle with wondering if a brow lift or upper eyelid lift is the right decision. While an upper eyelid lift can help remove excess skin of the eyelid, helping to improve that tired look and even help correct vision, a brow lift helps to lift the brow to a more alert and youthful position. Dr. Stiller is highly skilled in making sure your brow lift is natural and makes you look refreshed without giving you that "tightly pulled” or “plastic" look. During your consultation, Dr. Stiller will discuss your goals and help guide you to the right decision for you.

The Brow Lift Procedure

The brow lift procedure can either be done endoscopically or classically, along the forehead hair line. There is no right answer for what procedure to choose when getting a brow lift. Dr. Stiller can discuss pros and cons in great detail with you to assist you in choosing what is best suited for you.

An endoscopic brow lift procedure involves two incisions, about a ¼ inch in length, behind the hairline. Then, using a tiny camera and thin instruments, Dr. Stiller loosens the brow and forehead skin from the underlying tissues. An endotine, a small three tined bioabsorbable implant, is placed underneath the skin and anchored directly to the underlying frontal bone for secure brow elevation. The skin is pulled and secured onto the endotine, the excess skin is removed and incision is closed.

A classic, or coronal, brow lift procedure involves one incision behind the hairline along the forehead. The skin is lifted from the underlying tissues and pulled to gently lift the brows and forehead. Excess skin and tissue are removed and brow muscles are repositioned into a more youthful appearance. The incision is closed and hides nicely behind the hairline.

Brow Lift Recovery

A brow lift is an outpatient procedure, so after a short period of recovery time, you will go home the same day. Recovery after a brow lift can vary between patients however, most patients recover very well. When you wake up from surgery, you will have a compression garment around the incision. Staples along the hairline are used to prevent hair follicle damage and will be removed after 1 week. It is normal to experience bruising, swelling, and a feeling of tightness for about 2 weeks. Even so, many patients feel comfortable going out in public about a week or so after the procedure. Most patients return to work after 1 week, however some may take longer or return sooner depending personal preference. As the face heals, patients can usually return to normal activity around 2 weeks.

You will be provided with detailed post-operative instructions upon completion of your procedure. If at any time you should have any questions or concerns after surgery, please contact our practice immediately.

Brow Lift Results

The changes made with brow lift surgery will last for several years to come when performed by an experienced, board-certified cosmetic surgeon. None, however, will hinder the natural aging process, and your forehead tissues will gradually start to settle with time and gravity. Neurotoxins like Botox or Dysport can be a great addition in helping smooth out wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. Additionally, maintaining a healthier lifestyle can help you keep your results looking better. Wear sunscreen on a regular basis, eat a rich diet in whole foods and vitamins, and exercise regularly. This will keep the body healthy and your skin looking its best.
