Eyelid Surgery Basics

An eyelid lift, also known as a blepharoplasty, is designed to effectively treat tired-looking eyes, eyelid lift surgery helps rejuvenate the eyes and restore a youthful, fresh-faced appearance to aging eyes. Eyelid lift surgery helps to smooth wrinkles, tighten sagging skin, and reduce puffiness around the eyes. Upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty) corrects loose, sagging skin and excess fat on the upper eyelids. Lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty) corrects undereye bags and/or sagging skin on the lower eyelid.

Eyelid Surgery Benefits

Is an Eyelid Lift Right for Me?

Do you feel your eyes have aged and have a tired, sad, or angry appearance? Are you sometimes mistaken as being upset or unhappy, even when you’re feeling great? Are sagging eyelids obstructing your ability to see? If any of these are true for you, an eyelid might be the right solution. Eyelid skin is very delicate and prone to sagging, wrinkles, loose skin, and other effects of aging. An upper blepharoplasty or lower blepharoplasty are effective ways to surgically counteract these changes and rejuvenate the eyes to give a more bright-eyed and youthful appearance.

Eyelid Lift Procedure

There are a few options available for your eyelid lift, depending upon your specific concerns, anatomy, and goals for the procedure. Upper eyelid surgery, upper blepharoplasty, may be recommended if your concerns include sagging, wrinkled skin on the upper eyelids. For this procedure, an incision is made in the upper eyelid crease, through which Dr. Stiller will remove excess skin and/or fat and adjust the surrounding muscle tissue to give your upper eyelid a lift. For those who want to remove puffy baggy skin beneath the eyes, a lower eyelid surgery, lower blepharoplasty, is typically performed. In this type of procedure, Dr. Stiller makes an incision on the outer edge of the lower eyelid beneath the eyelashes and removes fatty tissue and extra skin to tighten the under eye.
