Chin Implant Basics

The jaw line, along with the eyes, can form the most photogenic aspects of the face. A chin augmentation, such as a chin implant or chin reduction, can help to enhance the jaw line and improve the facial profile by adding to or reducing the size of the chin. By refining the structure of the chin and jaw line, the overall proportion and balance of the face will improve and the contours of the chin, neck, and jaw line will be enhanced to give you a more naturally attractive balance between facial features.

Chin Implant Benefits

Is a Chin Augmentation Right for Me?

Do you feel your face is out of proportion, particularly with respect to your jaw line or chin shape? Are you bothered by a recessed or “weak” chin? Do you want to correct a full or “double chin” appearance that’s caused by a small chin bone? If so, a chin augmentation may help. Be sure to discuss your concerns and desired results with Dr. Stiller and he can help you decide if a chin augmentation is right for you.

Chin Augmentation Procedure

During the procedure, Dr. Stiller will make a small incision either underneath the chin or inside the mouth, through which he will create space for the chin implant. The implant itself is made of silicone and will have been molded to fit your chin bone and give you the level of enhancement you’ve chosen with Dr. Stiller during your consultation. This implant will feel very similar to a natural chin bone after surgery.

Chin augmentation surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning you will be able to go home the same day as your surgery. The surgery itself typically takes about 1 hour from start to finish and after the surgery, the incisions will be closed with sutures and your chin will be bandaged.

Recovery

Chin augmentation surgery requires relatively little downtime post-surgery and most patients find they are ready to return back to work and other daily activities about a week after surgery. You will experience some discomfort after the procedure, so Dr. Stiller will discuss with you a pain management plan to make your recovery as comfortable as possible. It is important to sleep face-up while recovering for about 1-2 weeks following surgery – this helps to control swelling and protect incision sites. You can expect to see your final full results after about 3 months post-op once the residual swelling has gone down.

Chin Augmentation Results

The results of your chin augmentation surgery will be permanent. This means you can enjoy your new appearance for the rest of your life, as long as there is no trauma to the face. Aging will affect your facial skin in other ways, but your chin contour will remain.
